TIRANA, May 13 – Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri has announced two new electronic tools to help fight crime in Albania.

The first effort is a mobile phone application – the Electronic Police Station – that allows users to notify police of criminal activity and keep track of the response.

“This is about providing a better system,” Tahiri said. “With just one click, people can now reach the men and women of police to file a complaint.”

The second program is an online portal aimed at fighting electronic crimes such as hate speech, pedophile materials and criminal hacking.

Authorities will launch a new system that will track and block web materials that are related to extremism, pedophiles and hackers.

Albanian government sites have often been the prey of hackers. While the web is increasingly used to promote extremist ideologies such as terrorism, authorities said.
