TIRANA, June 24 – A recent investigation in Italy has suggested that narcotics — marijuana, cocaine and heroin — continue to pass through Albania toward the southern Italian coastline, including Sicily.
A related trial against five ethnic Albanians has started in Turin.
Twenty-three defendants, many of whom were arrested in raids on Nov. 25 last year, were part of the trial.
Following the massive operations last year, Albanian police took Albania off the black list of countries producing marijuana.
But it seems that the criminal gangs are still using the country for illegal trafficking.
