TIRANA, Nov. 21 – Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli took part at an international forum on security held in Halifax, Canada, where she met senior officials from NATO member countries.
U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Robert O. Work thanked Albania in a meeting with Kodheli on the assistance and contribution in Afghanistan and also in the global fight against terrorists in Iraq and Syria.
The forum discussed on the challenges of the global security, urging more joint efforts.
Kodheli also met with her Canadian counterpart, Harjit Singh Sajjan, who also spoke about Albania’s role as a stability factor in the Balkans region.
“What happened in Paris is serious and we should cope with that phenomenon seriously and not to mix two issues: ISIS is killing more Muslims than Christians. So the key word is leadership,” Kodheli said.
She also spoke about 50,000 Albanians who have asked for asylum in Germany. She said these were economic migrants who wanted to work for a better life and integrate in the host countries, not people fleeing prosecution at home.
