TIRANA, Nov. 24 – Main opposition Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha on Tuesday said they would hold a big rally Dec. 8, a national holiday commemorating the students’ protest that toppled the former communist regime in 1990.
Speaking while on a nationwide trip, in the northwestern town of Vau i Dejes, Basha accused the Socialist-led government of increasing poverty in Albania.
He said that the government’s taxes were unbearable, that the unemployment had increased and there had been no salary increases at all from the left-wing government, which he said was “totally corrupt.”
“On Dec. 8, we invite in a protest march in Tirana all Albanians — without political differentiation — all those that have found themselves in misery,” Basha said.
This would be the first rally of the opposition since it defeat in the municipal elections in June.
