Global Terrorism Index: Albania ranked 92nd globally

TIRANA, Nov.15 – Albania has been ranked 92nd in the world in terms of impact from terrorism for the year 2015, according to the latest edition of the Global Terrorism Index published on Wednesday.

The report has also ranked Kosovo at the 70th place among 143 countries endangered by terrorism included in the index.

The list of countries at risk includes Bosnia Herzegovina (62), Macedonia (78), Montenegro (117) and Serbia (121). Data shows that Albania is the fourth country in Western Balkans most threatened by terrorism.

The report noted that 100 Albanian citizens have been engaged in the ISIS fueled conflicts while authorities have arrested and sentenced dozens of them.

Few days ago, authorities in Albania and Kosovo arrested dozens of people with ties to ISIS who had allegedly planned an attack against the Israeli soccer team playing in the country.

The index shows ISIS is now officially the deadliest terrorist group in the world, claiming responsibility for 6,141 deaths through attacks in more than 250 different cities in 2015.

France, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Tunisia experienced an increase in terrorism acts in 2015, as terror related deaths in Western countries surged 650 percent.

According the annual Global Terrorism Index report, the global impact from terrorism had a value of US $89.6 billion in 2015.
