TIRANA, Nov. 14 – Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said Monday accession talks with Albania will likely officially open in the month of December, following the approval of the European Commission’s recommendation by the European Council.
Gentiloni met with Prime Minister Edi Rama in the sidelines of the Friends of Albania meeting held in Brussels this week.
”This is an important result for which Italy has worked over these years. This is a signal which Europe needs to send and confirm its capacity of attract new members and consolidate the European Union,” Gentiloni said.
The Italian foreign minister added the recommendation to open accession talks sends a positive message to the Balkans, a region which needs further stability and assistance from the European Union.
