TIRANA, Nov. 21 – Police in the region of Shkodra arrested eight professors, students and middlemen involved in corrupt affairs at the Luigj Gurakuqi University.

The probe against the eight suspects began earlier this years, as prosecutors were tipped about several corrupt dealings involving several heads of departments and students of the Faculty of Philology who received 200 to 700 euros in bribes over exam grades or higher grades required for the enrollment in the Master’s program.

Prosecutors discovered that the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Philology, Rokin Dabà«rdaku, and the Chief of History Department Simon Lufi were allegedly paid a lot of money to give favorable grades to students. The money was usually paid to middlemen involved with the university staff.

Earlier this year, police issued an arrest warrant for the head master program of the Department of Biochemistry in the University of Shkodra, following the broadcast of a video revealing the director getting paid money in exchange of grades.

Two years ago, another teacher in the Faculty of Law in University of Shkodra was also arrested while he was being paid a lot of money to pass a student.
