MFE signs agreement with Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development to finance rehabilitation of the Vlora River Road

TIRANA, March 3 – On Tuesday, an agreement was signed between the Albanian Government and the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development to finance the rehabilitation of the Vlora River Road project. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Anila Denaj and the Director of Project Management of the Albanian Development Fund, Ermir Omari, in the presence of theAmbassador of Kuwait to Albania, Fayez Mishari M. Al-Jassim, ADF Director General, Dritan Agolli and the Mayor of Vlora, Dritan Leli.

“The strategic importance of the Vlora River Road project is related to improving the quality of life for the communities living in the area. This project is closely linked to the growth of activity in the area, most importantly that of tourism. as a precondition to promote private activity, increase incomes for local families, and create new jobs. The objective of this project is to connect many villages of Vlora River with the Albanian coast, ” said the Minister. Denaj added that 22 million dollars will be made available at the service of 175 thousand inhabitants.

Moreover, the Ambassador of Kuwait said that the signing of this agreement shows once again the continuous support given to the Albanian government for the development of important infrastructure projects, as well as for achieving the appropriate standards.

The Mayor of Vlora,  Dritan Leli, thanked the Minister of Finance and Economy for his full commitment  to develop the project for the region, an investment, which will give a new impetus to the development of the area, sustainable tourism, but also to the faster movement of goods and residents from rural to urban areas.

The project aims to rehabilitate drainage infrastructure, security and lighting facilities in sidewalks in major towns. It will be implemented by the Albanian Development Fund and it is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
