TIRANA, April 20 – Another group of 60 Albanian nurses were sent to Italy in order to assist the neighboring country’s medical staff in the fight against Covid-19. The nurses arrived in Rome on Monday afternoon, where they were welcomed by Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi di Maio who expressed gratitude to the Albanian government for their assistance and announced that the Albanian nurses would be placed in the Marche region.
Italian Ambassador to Tirana Fabrizio Bucci thanked Albania for its assistance to Italy as he was present together with Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu at the moment of the departure of the nurses to Rome. “Thank you for this extraordinary gesture. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he said.
On March 28, the government sent a group of 30 Albanian doctors and nurses to Lombardy, Italy’s worst-hit region by the coronavirus. The act was appreciated and valued by Italian Prime Minister who also pointed out that none of the EU countries have helped Italy as much as Albania did.
The 30 doctors and nurses are expected to return to Albania in a few days.
