TIRANA, Feb. 27, 2023 – The governments of Albania and Montenegro have held a joint meeting in Podgorica, signing several cooperation agreements.
The most tangible deal will likely be the construction of a new bridge on the Buna river — which marks the southern border of the two countries — and the opening of the border point at Shen Koll, where Albania’s Velipoja tourist region is connected to the Ulqin area in Montenegro.
In what is the second meeting of its kind, the respective ministers of the two governments signed agreements and memoranda in the fields of energy, fishing, sports, culture, press and others.
Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama thanked Montenegro for the special cooperation, which, according to him “offers extraordinary opportunities to deepen and strengthen even more.”
“I want to repeat here what I said during the meeting that Albania and Montenegro are more than neighbors and can do much more than they have done so far,”,said Mr. Rama, while adding that “we meet in a very challenging moment for the whole of Europe and for our countries and in this context, apart from the direct challenges, the value of this warmth and this brotherhood in the neighborhood becomes even greater.”
Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović said the joint meeting of the two governments gives the right messages of cooperation and a shared future.
“Today from Podgorica we sent a beautiful message, the message of cooperation, the message of dedication to the common future, which will be based on economic development,” Mr. Abazovic said.
