TIRANA, Jan. 20 – Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli has urged Albanian young men and women to join the country’s professional armed forces to launch military careers and serve the country at the same time.

Kodheli spoke to students at a public university in capital Tirana, saying that the armed forces are recruiting some 500 new soldiers and marines this year alone.

The minister said that the work they would do at the army would be very intriguing and they would be part of the highest social values: love for the country. She said that the new recruits would have a safe job contract and also other opportunities, like being educated in the best military schools.

Albania, a NATO member country since 2009, has turned the country’s army into a professional one since a few years.

Albanian soldiers have a good pay even compared to other public jobs in the country and they may also be part of the contingent taking part in international peacekeeping missions like those in Afghanistan.
