A unique collection of works of the internationally recognized artist, Victor Vasarely, (1908-1997) will arrive to Tirana on June 18 to offer to the Albanian public an exceptional opportunity for an insight into the magic world of Op-art.
Vasarely was one of the most important, avant-garde and successful artists of the 20th century. He created a new artistic style and is considered the leader, the pope of the Op-art (Optical Art) movement. His innovations in colour and optical illusion have a strong influence on many modern artists even nowadays.
Each artistic period of his life was devoted to experiments and rationalism, and followed the geometrical line of non-figurative art. Vasarely’s works have been categorized into a variety of different and sometimes overlapping styles. He consciously turned against all artistic directions of his time.
Vasarely played with dimensions deliberately in his works. He followed the principle of clear composition based on the edges and the face of the axonometric cube, and from the scale of colours. Vasarely captivates the public through making all surfaces move, changing the perspective, finding the new in all materials and forms. He invented his individual artistic alphabet and expression form. His goal was to create for the benefit of the whole mankind, make his art available to everyone, and adapt it to the human environment.
Hundreds of exhibitions were organised with his works, from France to the U.S., from Japan to South Asia, from Israel to Hungary. There is hardly a major museum which does not possess one or several of his works. Permanent exhibitions of his woks in New York, Paris, Harvard, London, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Sao Paolo, Montevideo, Brussels, and Reykjav attract more than 100,000 visitors every year. Many museums have Vasarely’s name, from Caracas to the Hotel Hilton in Brussels.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition based on the Hungarian “Csepei Collection” will be held at 6.30 p.m., 18th of June at the Exhibition Hall of the Tirana National Museum. The exhibition is organised under the close collaboration of the Hungarian Cultural Institute Sofia, the Hungarian Embassy, the Alliance Fran袩se in Tirana and sponsored by MALEV Hungarian Airline Co.
