TIRANA, Sep. 7 – The government decided in its last meeting to accept the agreement with Italy on the recognition of the driving licenses in the neighboring country, a member of the European Union.

The two countries signed a protocol in July after technical negotiations between the respective institutions of the two countries.

The agreement makes possible that those Albanians who live in Italy will not be asked to follow a driving training course, rather their Albanian drivers license will be considered valid.

The agreement will also cut expenses for Albanians who may receive their driving license from Italian authorities and not be obliged to return to their homeland.

The government decision will have to be passed by the parliament as well as by Italian authorities.

Such an agreement would open the way for similar agreements with other EU member countries.
