TIRANA, Oct 15 – Parliamentary Speaker Jozefina Topalli made a visit to Jordan where she not only met with top officials there but also took part at the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly.
After the Paris Summit held with the initiative of French President Nicholas Sarkozy to build Mediterranean cooperation, the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly convened in Jordan where Albania was invited to participate as an observer.
As an institution of the Barcelona Process, the Assembly is now headed by Hans Gert Pottering, the President of European Parliament, and composed of 260 European members.
Cooperation in different areas such as economy, politics, energy, transport, infrastructure etc. among the members and maintaining peace and stabilization in the region as well in other parts of the world were the main topics of the Assembly.
Topalli evaluated this participation as a very important progress in maintaining relations with the partners and added that was one of the steps in her country’s integration to international institutions.
Next year Albania is supposed to be the member of the Euro Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly.
