TIRANA, July 4 – Albanian Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry Gazmend Turdiu addressed the Forum for Cooperation in the Area of Security of OSCE, the main body in the field of disarmament, weapons’ control and confidence- building measures in the military field. Turdiu took part in this Forum in his capacity as President of the 10th Conference of the Party States in the Ottawa Convention for the Anti-Personnel Mines. Albania is holding the Presidency of this Conference for the year 2011.
Turdiu informed the OSCE participating states of the performance during the implementation of the Ottawa Convention by the member states, the challenges faced in this process and the importance of its universality. He spoke on the full implementation by Albania of the obligations stemming from the Convention and on the two priorities of the Albanian Presidency: assistance for the victims of anti-personnel mines, and the universality of the Convention.
Turdiu appealed to the OSCE participating states, that are not yet members, to join the Convention.
