TIRANA, Jan 16 – Albania’s Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati commented the recent conflict between Serbia and Kosovo saying that “2017 had a bad start for Southeastern Europe.”

Bushati took to social media and said that any promotion of aggression is an act of irresponsibility.

“In the anniversary of the Serbian massacre in Recak, the stubborn promotion of aggression is irresponsible and does not serve to the necessary climate of regional collaboration” Bushati said.

He warned that “the destabilizing acts of provocation and theatrical fantasies of Serbia’s leaders are irritating and far from expectations from a EU member candidate” he added.

Albania’s chief diplomat urged both countries to take a step back from threats because “ returning the train of the past does not lead anywhere”

Meanwhile, the chairman of Albania’s Democratic Party Lulzim Basha has called on the government to do more than issuing press statements regarding the situation in Kosovo.

“It is up to Kosovo to issue a first rapid response to the act of provocation, but Albania should react as well. Our government is reacting through press statements and Facebook. This is insufficient,” Basha said.

“DP is ready to provide our contribution in full support of Kosovo to prevent any escalation of the situation and restore peace and security in the region” Basha concluded.
