TIRANA, Dec 10 – Albania welcomed the start of the EULEX mission in Kosova “as an important process not only for its future but of the whole region,” according to a statement of the Foreign Ministry.
“The Foreign Affairs Ministry believes this mission will successfully comply in its responsibilities to guarantee the legal state and achieving of European standards, thus cutting short Kosova’s road toward EU and NATO integration,” said the statement.
But Tirana did not forget to remind Europe that the mission should be in line with the Kosova Constitution and the Ahtisaari Plan, referring to hints that the EULEX mission, based on the 6-point plan from Ban Ki-Moon, could serve to partition Kosova.
“The Foreign Affairs Ministry hails the determination of the EU mission and of the other international factors on the protection of Kosova’s territorial integrity, security and functioning of its legitimate institutions in the whole territory, including northern Mitrovica, because only such as these can offer the construction of a democratic and peaceful Kosova as a fundamental condition for the Balkans’ long-term stability,” said the statement.
