TIRANA, Dec. 16 – Albtelecom has confirmed that it has completed work on a second fiber-optic system between Albania and Kosovo, in conjunction with Kosovo-based PTK. Measurements and testing have been successfully implemented by the staff of both companies at the Qafe-Morina border crossing. The first cross-border fiber deployment between the two countries was realized two years ago, at the Bajram Curri-Gjakova area.
Tirana also decided Wednesday on building the 110-kv power interconnection line with Kosovo, that has long been a show of contest between the former Democratic Party-led government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha with the German KfW, part of the German government.
There was a contest on who was to build it, a move from the Tirana cabinet of the time that was not approved from the KfW that funded the project.
