ELBASAN, Nov. 27 – Albania and Kosovo will remove the hard border checks currently in place and allow traffic to flow freely, officials at a joint government meeting of the two countries said.

Albanian Interior Minister Bledi Cuci said that working together with his Kosovo counterpart, Xhelal Svecla, work would start to install cameras at border checkpoints that will serve to monitor and track vehicles traveling between the two countries.

The deal had been a request of the two prime ministers, Edi Rama and Albin Kurti.

The goal is to get the free movement going before the busy tourist season, especially at the main border crossings.

In previous years, Albania and Kosovo had moved to stopping traffic in only one direction to make it easier.
