Albania leads mine ban meeting

TIRANA, Nov. 24 – Albania will lead the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (or Ottawa Convention) meeting which is to be held in Geneva, Switzerland next week.
In the first gathering, since the landmark Cartagena Summit, the international community will formally discuss the problems caused by anti-personnel mines.
Among speakers there will also be Albanian Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto, Jakob Kellenberger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, Sylvie Brigot, Executive Director, International Campaign to Ban Landmines, ICBL and others.
The moderator of the conference on Monday will be President-designate Gazmend Turdiu of the Albanian foreign ministry.
