TIRANA, June 13 – Suffolk, Britain’s Free Press reports that a woman will send a huge container of donated items to Albania. Barbara Boyd, who runs Hadleigh Thrift Shop, spent months collecting toys, clothing and school equipment to send to those in need.
Boyd, 78, said: “The container is 40 feet long and also has scanners, incubators and wheelchairs to give to hospitals, which are desperate for them. There are boxes and boxes going over – it took four hours just to pack the container.”
Boyd added: “We have 21 people who work so hard at the shop and it has gone from strength to strength.
“The majority of money from the shop goes to local causes, which is also important.”
In a separate activity, health professionals from across North Antrim, USحainly consisting of a team of dental and medical staff– will travel to remote regions of Albania where conditions in 2011 are still described as ‘third world’. Each year medical and dental teams fly east to hold clinics and provide medical care and free dental work for people who are too poor to pay for the privilege.
Anne Bell told the Times: “This is our third year going to Albania. We were the first medical and dental team from outside Albania to travel to the particular village we go to. Over four days we will see about 130 patients. Many of them are for tooth extractions and we carry out all the work free of charge.”
