TIRANA, Feb. 3 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has urged all Albanian political parties to join efforts to support the candidacy of Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and EU’s Catherine Ashton for a Nobel Peace Prize.
He sent a letter to all leaders of the political parties present in the Albanian parliament urging them support such an initiative.
Thaci, Dacic and Ashton have been officially proposed based on their recent efforts of signing the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, considered as an historic deal.
Kosovo became independent from Serbia in 1999 after a bombing campaign by NATO, but it formally declared independence in 2008, which Serbia does not recognize.
“For this important contribution for the whole of Southeastern Europe, let us join our voice with the promoters of such an idea,” Rama wrote in a letter to the heads of political parties in the Kuvendi, the Albanian Parliament.
He urged the creation of a joint grouping of parliamentarians from all the political parties that would prepare a letter to be sent to the head of the Nobel Prize committee and also they urge their respective political groupings in Europe to support such an idea.
