TIRANA, May 31 – Albania and Serbia have pledged to boost economic cooperation, especially in the energy sector. This was confirmed during a meeting Albanian Minister of Economy, Trade and Energy Dritan Prifti had in Tirana with Serb Minister of Energy and Mining Petar Skundric discussing the improvement of current cooperation.
The Serb minister announced at a joint press conference that a memorandum of economic cooperation between Serbia and Albania will be signed soon. He specified that the document will be a base for further expanding their cooperation and will be signed during Prifti’s visit to Belgrade.
The Minister pointed out the need for Serbia and Albania to intensify their cooperation in all economic sectors, primarily in energy.
He noted that the two countries should have a number of joint projects in energy and be bearers of regional projects of importance for third countries as well as Europe as a whole.
Our potential for economic cooperation is ten times greater than our current cooperation, Skundric underlined, stressing that their future economic cooperation should also help to improve their cultural cooperation and raise the friendly relations between the two partners to an even higher level.
The Minister recalled that Serbia plans to become a regional leader in energy over the next five to seven years, adding that Serbia and Albania should jointly participate in the construction of gas infrastructure, which would help them connect even better.
Meanwhile, Albanian minister Prifti described the visit of the Serbian delegation to Tirana as historic and very productive.
He explained that he and Skundric also discussed the necessity of establishing mutual cooperation to the benefit of both countries, specifying that they identified energy, road infrastructure and several other sectors as areas of special importance in this respect.
Prifti noted that Serbian investment in all economic sectors in Albania is welcome, adding that his country is interested in gas interconnections with Serbia, which is why it will look at possibilities for cooperation in this respect.
