Albania signs cleaning waters project in four cities

Tirana, Jan. 25 – Albania signed Thursday a 14.24 million Euro contract with the European Bank and the European Bank of Investment for the project of clean waters in Durres, Lezha, Shengjin and Saranda. The project is to be applied from the Italian company Putignano. It is a follow-up of the successful funding of the similar project in Kavaja. The World Bank is the main funder. The project aims at constructing an implant to treat black waters with modern technology. In Durres there will be one more implant to filter the legatine as well. In Durres the project is funded from a World Bank grant of 8.5 million Euro. In Saranda the EBI grant of 2.7 million Euro, including a part from the Albanian government will link all consumers from the town to Kanali I Cukes with the main collector. Another EBI grant of 3.14 million Euro supported also by the Bank of Luxembourg will build the implant in Lezha. The implants aim at improving the water quality in these areas and also the public health and promote tourism development. (Tirana Times Staff)
