TIRANA, Oct 21 – Albania aims at becoming a power exporting country in two years by halving electricity losses in the grid by 2011 and building new generation capacities, according to Deputy Finance Minister Sherefedin Shehu.
That is a very courageous statement from an official, taking into account that the country ha been in continuous crisis moments in power supply during the last two decades.
The country bases almost all its production on hydro power stations which have also suffered recently from the lack of rain.
A bad distribution network and the non-payment from the consumers add problems to the bad management of the public corporation.
