Albania to increase military cooperation with Turkey

TIRANA, March 19 – Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli reported to the defense parliamentary commission Wednesday on plans to strengthen military cooperation they have with Turkey, a key NATO ally for Albania.
Kodheli said that Turkey had given Albania a $1.13 million grant as part of military cooperation between the two countries.
The money will serve to buy military equipment from Turkish companies and on visits for military personnel, training courses of the Albanian forces and to modernize the Kucova military airport.
Kodheli spoke about the high level of cooperation between the two countries in the military field.
Turkey is one of the main supporters of the reforms in Albania’s post-communist country and a long-time member of NATO. Albania joined NATO in 2009.
