TIRANA, Dec. 5 – Italian media reported that seven Albanians were arrested Wednesday along with many Italians in an operation in the Italian cities of Verona and Perugia in a crack down on a drug distribution ring.
In the operation, codenamed Balcan, Italian police said they smashed an international drug ring which they had been investigating since January 2006 following another operation when they arrested 21 Albanians.
But the ring was reorganized within 12 months and had restarted the drug traffic from Albania into Croatia, Slovenia and then Italy.
