Albanian authorities turn down corruption poll by Transparency International

TIRANA, Dec. 8 – Responding to a survey on corruption in Albania, numerous governmental organizations have defended their departments from charges of widespread corruption issued recently by Transparency International.
Health service, justice and police were the top institutions accused as the most corrupt and least trusted in the country.
While Health Minister Nard Ndoka did not deny the existence of corruption, he said such corruption involved individuals, not entire institutions.
Police officials also responded to charges of corruption saying they deplored that Transparency International’s local partners misinterpreted the results and misinformed the public.
Only the justice system did not openly oppose the results, as it has currently turned into the main target of corruption by local and international institutions.
The Transparency International poll put Albania as the third most corrupt country in the world.
