TIRANA, June 6 – A new contingent of Albanian military trainers left this week for Afghanistan as part of NATO’s Resolute Support Mission.
Albania’s fourth contingent of peacekeepers will serve for a six-month period and will operate under the NATO Turkish command in Kabul.
A special ceremony was organized for the troops’ departure at the Special Operations Battalion headquarters in Zall-Herr, a few kilometers away from Tirana.
Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli, who attended the departure ceremony, highlighted the fact that Albania has demonstrated to be a good neighbor and a worthy NATO ally throughout the years.
The ceremony was also greeted by the Turkish ambassador to Albania Hidayet Bayraktar, who evaluated the cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.
Albania has contributed in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan since 2002. It has lost one soldier, Capt. Feti Vogli, during a mission there.
