TIRANA, July 24 – An Albanian national was sentenced to nine years in prison today for the armed robbery of two North Jersey banks.
Arlind Hyseni, 31, who also goes by “Shpend Mazari” and “Luie Belushi” held up TD Bank branches in Clifton and Wallington in late 2011, according to U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman.
In each case, he wore a mask over his face ordered employees to hand over cash, authorities said.
In the original robbery in Clifton on Nov. 2, 2011, he made off with about $286,100, but dropped it after a dye pack placed in with the money exploded. During the holdup at the Wallington bank on Dec. 30, 2011, he managed to get away with approximately $182,000.
Authorities tracked him down in New York City less than two months later. He pleaded guilty during a February appearance at federal court in Newark.
According to Fishman, an Albanian court sentenced Hyseni to 25 years in prison for killing a man during the course of a robbery in 2004. He will have to serve his term on U.S. soil before being returned to his native country
