TIRANA, June 18 – Dashnor Zeneli was extradited Monday from Rome. Zeneli, 35, was sentenced by the Bulqiza court to seven years imprisonment for involvement in prostitution. For three years, from 1997 to 2000, he is alleged to have promised a woman in Bulqiaza he would marry her. Upon taking this woman to Italy, he forced her to work as a prostitute for three years.
Officials say this is a typical case of hundreds or thousands of Albanian women who have been exploited for prostitution, mainly in Italy and other western countries.
Fighting human trafficking is a priority of the Albanian government and also a precondition for the country’s integration into international institutions.
