TIRANA, Feb 16 – Albania’s Muslims sent a petition with more than 50,000 signatures to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) urging the organization to recognize Kosovo.
A year after Kosovo declared its independence on February 17th, some 54 countries have already recognized Kosovo but few of them are Muslim.
That has been considered a surprise and the referendum organizers considered to make another appeal to the Arabs that were so eager to help with humanitarian aid in 1999.
It was learnt that Albanian Christian Orthodox and Catholic believers also signed the petition.
Albania has been a member of the OIC since December 1992, though it has remained at an observer status and the parliament has never ratified the membership request.
