TIRANA, Dec. 6 – On its 100th anniversary of establishment, the state-owned Albanian Post (Posta Shqiptare) has inaugurated its “Digital Postman” service to carry out mail and later financial services. Visiting the Albania’s Post’s digital tracking centre this week, Prime Minister Berisha hailed the progress made by the Post which now offers 90 services compared to only 30 a decade ago. In early 2013, the Albanian Post is also expected to offer internet service to households at lower prices than current market operators.
A couple of weeks ago, a 100Gb/s Albania-Kosovo interconnection line was inaugurated. The project implemented under the Digital Albania initiative is a Euro 11.6 mln investment by the Albanian government through the Transmission System Operator OST and the Albanian Post and a Euro 2 million by a Kosovo company.
Posta Shqiptare sh.a. offers a wide range of traditional postal services (letter post, postal parcels, and the service of money order), EMS express service, business services as well as financial services (fast money transfer, payment of taxes and duties, distribution of pensions, payment of telephone bills, electricity bills and other payments.)
