LONDON, Dec.1 – The British press reported last weekend that Albanian immigrants were among those who had committed murders in the past year, based on official figures released by Scotland Yard. Most murders in London, or 55 percent of the suspects, over the past year were committed by foreigners. Suspects were from a diverse range of countries including Peru, China, Albania, Romania, Lithuania, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh. British detectives were finding difficulties in the crimes as they found it hard to understand motives and deal with the language barrier.
Also, cultural differences play a big part, with “honor killing” and revenge murders stemming from village rivalries in Albania.
It is not only London where immigrants are causing increasing problems. In Hertfordshire, police investigated a murder with links to an Albanian clan feud and in Cambridgeshire, a Lithuanian man was burnt alive in a case which involved rivalries originating in Lithuania.
