TIRANA, Feb. 2 – Veiz Muca is the other person put under arrest for the Gerdec blast two years ago that killed 26 and injured 300 person at a private ammunition disposal factory not far from capital Tirana.
Muca worked as a chief operator managing groups of employees there. He was arrestee for false testimony after his words at the court did not comply with what he had told police earlier during the investigation.
The court has started the trial against 28 persons who are former officials of the Defense Minsitry, of teh army and also of the private company in charge of the disposal.
Former Defense Minister Fatmir mediu, now minister of environment, was scrapped of the accusation after he resumed the post of alawmker at last year’s general elections and then nominated at the government’s cabinet.
On March 15, 2008, a series of explosions at an ammunition disposal factory in Gerdec, near Tirana, injured 302 people and destroyed or damaged 5,500 houses.
Albania’s former defense minister and army chief of staff, and 26 other officials have been charged over the blasts.
