TIRANA, April 4 – An Albanian court ruling that set free a man accused of killing a police official has been met with public anger.

The court ruled there was not enough proof to convict Arben Frroku of killing Commissar Dritan Lamaj, a 41-year-old senior police official, who was shot dead two years ago.

Prosecutors had asked for life in prison. They are appealing the ruling.

Arben Frroku is the brother of  Mark Frroku, a lawmaker currently under house arrest because he is wanted in Belgium in connection with a murder. According to the warrant, the murder in question happened in Belgium in 1999. The killing happened as part of  a clash over controlling a prostitution network in Brussels.

The Frroku brothers lead the Christian Democratic Party.
