TIRANA, July 14 – Albanian Army units have started a training session in the central prefecture of Elbasan to prepare for emergency situations during summer time.
Some 210 army troops in 24 vehicles are holding the Gjinari 10 military exercise aimed at actions of the regional support brigade to help communities in case of fires.
Defense Minister Arben Imami thanked the troops for their commitment and readiness to cope with such situations.
The exercise was also a test of the collaboration of the army with the local authorities in emergency situations.
Albanian armed forces have undergone a deep reform to get adjusted to the new role, now also as a NATO member since last year. Coping with emergency situations and helping local population in such situations is one of their primary tasks.
