Six people have been arrested in Pogradec, Fier, Macedonia and Greece while authorities are still in the hunt of other members of the organization.
Grave crime prosecutors in Albania said that the criminal group primarily transported drugs to southern areas of Albania trafficked marijuana to Greece.
Some time ago, authorities in three countries arrested several Albanian, Greek and Macedonian citizens part of this organization involved in drug trafficking.
Officials said Tuesday that the criminal organization was headed by two Albanian citizens already arrested earlier. The two men had established an extensive network of growing, transportation and trafficking marijuana from Albania to Greece.
Drugs were transported through the borders connecting Albania to Macedonia and Greece and Macedonia to Greece.
Authorities in the neighbor country believe that Albania is the main supplier of marijuana in Greece, while Albanians are part of international networks that transport drugs to European Union countries.
Earlier this month, Greek police dismantled a similar criminal organization that transported marijuana hidden in commercial trucks headed to Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. Official records from Athens show that only in the month of February, authorities in the border seized roughly two tons of marijuana originating from Albania.
In the meantime, Albanian authorities have provided no additional details on the people involved in the cultivation and trafficking of about 12 tons of marijuana seized this week in a small village in the southern city of Pà«rmet.
