Tirana, 25 March 2008. The Bank of Albania concluded in its latest report that Albanian financial nonbank intermediaries, comprised of insurance companies and pension funds, remain undeveloped.
In general, the Bank of Albania is satisfied with the steady growth of the Albanian financial market and, especially, Albanian banks during recent years. However, the bank remains worried about the future development of Albanian banks and the financial market in general. The Bank of Albania blamed the poor development of other financial instruments, such as insurance companies and pension funds. According to the data released by the Bank of Albania, the banks currently control 76 percent of the financial market. In the meantime, the product penetration of insurance companies and pension funds remains comparatively low.(Tirana Times Staff)
