TIRANA, Oct. 25 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha went to Switzerland last week Saturday to attend the 13th Francophonie Summit in Montreux.
The main topic of the summit is “Challenges and visions for the future of La Francophonie.”
Albania is full member of the International Organization of La Francophonie which consists of the one-third membership of the UN.
Berisha attended the opening ceremony and the official reception extended for the heads of states and governments present in this event organized under the auspices of Doris Leuthard, President of Switzerland.
Leuthard, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Abdou Diouf, Francophonie Secretary-General , and other dignitaries delivered greeting speeches.
Participants highlighted the importance of promoting the French language worldwide as a means of expressing the linguistic and cultural diversity as well as the role this language should play in the multilateral organizations and the international relations.
They also talked on the climate issues and the solidarity among the French-speaking countries like the solidarity shown during last year disaster that struck Haiti.
