TIRANA, Jan. 22 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha returned to the almost forgotten case of the fight against Prosecutor General Theodhori Sollaku. He again reminded everyone he had not forgotten about Sollaku, starting with harsh accusations against him. “Main protector of crime in Albania remains Prosecutor-General who is to be under the deserved investigation for blocking different files and machination used to protect members of criminal organizations,” he said. The next day Justice Minister Aldo Bumci said they had asked international institutions and other countries how an independent institution could investigate Sollaku, Bumci said that Sollaku was the only person in the country who could not be under an investigation. In October Albania’s president refused a demand from governing Democratic Party lawmakers to have Prosecutor General Theodhori Sollaku fired, saying he had not violated the constitution. The parliament had voted in July to dismiss Sollaku, after a two-month investigation by lawmakers accused him of 80 offenses, including abuse of his position.
