TIRANA, Jan 1 – An explosion that damaged a power pylon in northern Albania was labeled as a “terrorist act” by authorities, because it came with political messages.
Besides the blast causing significant damage to the pylon police also found notes against higher fuel prices and taxes set from the new government for the 2014 budget. The damage did not disrupt power supply.
The pylon was part of the electricity transmission line linking capital Tirana with Montenegro.
Authorities harshly condemned the explosion and called on all the people to help in finding the perpetrators.
“This is the first terrorist act in the Republic of Albania which has been accompanied by clear messages left at the crime scene by the perpetrators,” the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The 2014 budget has raised fuel tax by 10 leks per liter.
