TIRANA, March 10 – Bulgarian Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Zlatan Kirilov Stoykov was on a visit to Albania this week to discuss strengthening bilateral military ties and also Albania’s prospects as a NATO member.
The Bulgarian military representative met with all top Albanian counterparts and Minister of Defense Gazmend Oketa who thanked him for the continuous Bulgarian support in the Albanian army reforms since 1993.
Albania hopes to become a new NATO member country at its summit next month.
After getting the membership invitation at last year’s summit in Bucharest, Albania signed in July the membership protocol with NATO in Brussels which has been ratified by all NATO member countries.
Albania, together with Croatia, expects to become full NATO members at its Strasbourg-Kehl summit April 3-4 when the alliance is also to celebrate its 60th anniversary.
