TIRANA, July 3 Some 200 miners from Bulqiza held a protest at the main government building on Tuesday in support of their 30 colleagues who have been on a hunger strike for 10 days as they seek higher wages.

Some of the hunger strikers have been have been rushed to hospitals due to their deteriorating health.

Some 600 miners of the chromium mine want a 50 percent salary rise, not the 15 percent hike offered by the Austrian mining company, Darfo.

Protesters said they would repeat the rally in front of the parliament building and block the election of the new president unless they had help from the government in having their demands met.

They want the government to intercede with the Austrian company to respect the promise of higher wages they made when they took over the mining operation.
