TIRANA, Feb. 1 – Miners working at the Bulqiza mine operated by concession by the Russian-Austrian company, Albanian Chrome, have negotiated a 50 percent pay hike following lengthy discussions with Albanian Chrome officials.
The mine was the scene of the death of six miners last year who were found to be working in unsafe conditions.
That accident resulted in the government suspending operations at Bulqiza until repairs and safety upgrades were in place.
Albanian Chrome has said it will invest up to 20 million euro to improve working conditions at the mine.
