TIRANA, Aug. 28 – Two armed men stopped and grabbed 17 million leks from the Mercedes car of the Braka fuel station company Monday, police reported. The robbery was only less than 100 meters from the police station at 21 Dhjetori crossroad. Two persons armed with pistols stopped the car and after threatening the driver they took the amount of leks and left in another car nearby. Police put road checks all around the capital but they could not say if they had identified suspects. Robbers had put gloves as well to hide their traces.
At a time when such a scene could have been normal in countryside roads especially after the 1997 anarchic year, it was a frightful experience for all businessmen to hear of that. That loudly said that no one would be free of crime even in downtown Tirana and close to the police station. That turns down police statements about their efficiency in fighting and discovering crime acts and their organizations. It is a great challenge to police that should now be focused to arrest the suspects.
