TIRANA, April 15 – Albania’s national police force has a new chief, with Haki Çaco being appointed Director General of the State Police.
He replaces Artan Didi, who resigned earlier this month.
Çako led a series of successful police operations in recent years, the most recent being the massive anti-drug operation in Lazarat.
He has a 23-year career in the State Police, and before being appointed deputy general director, he had been police chief in several major Albanian cities.
Çako was proposed to the spot by Interior Minister Samir Tahiri and was approved by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Çako’s predecessor, Didi, resigned citing “moral responsibility,” following the revelation that an Interpol warrant for an MP accused of murder in Belgium went missing and was not acted upon for several weeks.
