TIRANA, June 18 – Some 100 big companies operate in Albania with annual turnover of more than 1 billion lek (Euro 7 million) each, according to data obtained from tax authorities. In an article on the 100 biggest companies operating in Albania as far as their turnover and number of employees are concerned, Monitor magazine says that based on data it has obtained from tax authorities, Canadian-based Bankers Petroleum engaged in oil exploration and drilling was the company with the highest turnover in 2012 with 52.8 billion lek (Euro 367 million), replacing CEZ Shperndarje which dropped to third place after facing a series of problems in 2012. Oil trade company Kastrati ranked the second and BKT bank the fourth for the highest turnover. Taci Oil ranked fifth with 32.77 billion lek, followed by Power Corporation KESH with 28.6 billion lek, Raiffeisen Bank with 26.3 billion lek, Kurum steel plant with 25.7 billion lek, Vodafone with 23.9 billion lek.
Although the turnover of the 100 biggest enterprises operating in Albania rose by 11 percent tax authorities collected 1 percent less in 2012.
