TIRANA, June 30 – A 9-year-old girl in the Lushnja district, some 80 kilometers south of Tirana, was taken by a man and raped, in an event that shocked the country.
But it is still unclear who the pedophile was.
First police arrested a 42-year-old man, who was later released, found innocent. Following that and based on testimony they could get from the child, they arrested a 19-year-old man, who family and neighbors say is also innocent.
All those moves unfortunately show a lack of professionalism from the police authorities and increase the suffering the victim and her family, critics say.
