TIRANA, August 4 – The coastal city of Durres is hosting the fifth edition of the Classical Music Nights biennale under the direction of Albanian violinist Florian Vlashi.
The event which kicked last Monday was held in four different venues in Durres such as the local St, Lucy Cathedral, the Jozef art gallery, the Aleksander Moisiu theatre and the Pjeter Dungu concert hall.
The biennale’s first night was dedicated to baroque music and especially Venetian authors Giovanni Gabrielli, Tomaso Albinoni, Giovanni Ferrandini and Antonio Vivaldi.
The second night of the festival paid tribute to composer Pjeter Gaci who was a pioneer in the establishment of the Albanian violin school.
The event continued with performances by students of local Jan Kukuzeli art school and the traditional young talents competition. Friday, August 5, will mark the end of this year’s biennale with a concert called “Seasons, from Vivaldi to Piazzolla.”
“This edition is like an art journey from the baroque music to classical music, from romantic music to modern music,” says director Florian Vlashi.
